District 201N5, New South Wales, Australia

Lions Club of Menai

The Lions Club of Menai was chartered in 1982 and in 2012 we are celebrating our 30th Anniversary.

During the past 30 years, our club has supported our local community by a range of projects and community assistance please see Projects.

Our club is based in the South South/Western area of the Sydney metropolitan area, yet only some 50mins to the Sydney CBD. The local population is approx 34,000, and includes Menai, Illawong, Alfords Point, Barden Ridge and Woronora.

We are part of the Sutherland Shire which encompasses other suburbs such as Cronulla, Miranda, Kirrawee, Jannali, Caringbah, Sutherland, Engadine, Heathcote, Loftus, Gymea, Como, to just name a few.

To the north, Bankstown is 10 minutes away and to the east, Sutherland is only 10 minutes away over the Woronora bridge.

Our club was a key player in the organisation and implementation of the bridge opening and bridge walk celebrations which raised over $60,000 for shire charities in 2000.

We are definitely the only club in Australia, and maybe beyond, who have a Nuclear Reactor on the fringe of our area.

The Opal Reactor at Lucas Heights.

We are the Menai Lions

We meet the needs of our local communities and the world.

Our 1.3 million men and women in 205 countries and geographic areas conduct vision and health screenings, build parks, support eye hospitals, award scholarships, assist youth, provide help in time of disaster and much more.

Our club has received the Premiers award for community service resulting from our contribution to the community in the 1994 Bush Fires in our area of NSW and contributions to local bush fire brigade units continue.

To fundraise, we have run huge local events, cooked an unknown large quantity of sausages, sold thousands and thousands of raffle tickets, we have supported the openings of bridges and freeways and we have helped many individuals and groups along the way.

Importantly, we have enjoyed the experience, the fellowship and the fun.

Join us in making our communities and the world better places to live.

We meet twice a month on the second and fourth Wednesday at 7:30pm at Woronora RSL & Citizens Club, Prince Edward Park Rd, Woronora.

If you are looking to attend our meeting as a guest on the second or fourth Wednesday, please contact the members listed on our "Contact Us" tab above or any other member you may know.

You will be made very welcome!

Please browse our website at your leisure, we think you will find it interesting and maybe thought provoking.

And please pass on our web address to friends and family.
